About WIC

WIC is a supplemental food program available to Women, Infants, and Children. It is a special food program funded through the United States Department of Agriculture. It is available to women who are pregnant, postpartum up to 6 months, or breastfeeding up to one year after the baby's birth. Children are eligible up to five years of age.

Eligibility

You must be a resident of Craven County, or surrounding areas to be eligible. Your household income must meet income guidelines, which can be verified by calling our office. You will also be seen by a nutritionist to check your health history for any risk factors that make you categorically eligible. Further information can also be found on our state WIC site.

Breastfeeding Support

WIC is a strong supporter of breastfeeding mothers. We offer several services to aid in the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding. Services include breastfeeding support group, lactation support for issues breastfeeding your new baby, and breast pumps for those found eligible.

Packaged Foods

For infants whose mothers choose not to breastfeed, WIC provides contract milk or soy based infant formulas. Under special circumstances, we can provide other specific infant formulas, with a prescription from the infant's pediatrician. After 6 months of age, WIC provides infant fruits and vegetables (stage 2), and infant cereal. If you require a prescription for your infant or child, click here for an electronic copy of the form.
