Later this week the Craven County Tax Administrator will send out approximately 10,875 Vehicle Registration Gap Property Tax Notices to residents who had gaps in vehicle registration between July 1, 2017 and February of 2021. This notice is a property tax bill that covers the months between the expiration of a vehicle's registration and the renewal of that registration or the issuance of a new registration. Craven County is required by North Carolina General Statute 105-330.3(2) to collect property taxes for vehicles with an unregistered status. This requirement has been in place since July 1, 2017 and a recent upgrade to Craven County's billing software now allows compliance with this billing requirement.
