On May 3, 2022 NCDHHS issued a press release about a new electronic reporting system for NC COVID-19 related deaths. With the use of this new system and the ability to access death certificate data electronically, NCDHHS identified 1,146 additional deaths that occurred between January 1, 2022 and March 31, 2022 with COVID-19 noted as the cause on the death certificate and with a positive COVID-19 test. These additional deaths were not previously included in the number of COVID-19 related deaths on the NCDHHS COVID-19 Dashboard but are now included. Of the 1,146 additional deaths that were added, 12 of them were Craven County residents. It is important to note that these additional deaths occurred between January 1, 2022 and March 31, 2022 and were recently added to the total NC death number by the NCDHHS.
